The First Season

Seasons are cyclical.
Every season depends on each other to "survive".

If you had to decide which of the seasons came first
(the one that started them all) which one would you choose? Why?

  1. Mrs. West--Great question. I think I would choose winter as the first season. The Bible says God breathed life into the world, so I would think from the dormancy or "nothingness" came life.

  2. Tim Kaniecki - If I had to decide which of the seasons came first, I would have to choose the season of spring. I guess I would choose spring because many things happen in spring that represent new life. Flowers, Easter, etc. all have something to do with new life. The Bible tells us many stories of new life, in both the New and Old Testament. For example, when God created the world, all of creation was new life. Another example is when Jesus rose from the dead after his crucifixion. The fact is, God is new life. He was always there and He will always continue to create more new life.

  3. Timmy Walter- I think i would choose winter to come first. Winter is when all the preparing is for Christmas and everyone always enjoys Christmas with their family. I also like Winter because I get to see my cousin for Thanksgiving and Christmas. These two holidays are not as sad as Lent and last longer than Easter so I like them more. Also football season goes on during the winter. Nothing beats watching the Steelers. Also we get to play in the Turkey Bowl. GO SOPHMORES!

  4. Danielle Kumpf - All seasons are essential; one could not exist without the others. However, if I had to choose a season I consider the "first" season I would say spring. At this time the earth seems to re-grow. During winter, all life is killed but during spring life receives a fresh start. In my mind winter represents the death that results from sin. In turn, spring represents God's forgiveness and our second chance at life with him in heaven.

If I were to chose one season that represented the beginning of this never ending cycle, I would choose Spring. This is when all life is renewed after the cold winter. Yet, in the beginning of time there would be nothing to renew, only life to create. Spring truly shows what God is capable of creating. All of the wonders of the world come to life in the spring time.

Winter should come first. It begins after all the hubbub of the Christmas holiday. Nature seems to take a rest and life calms down a bit. It seems, in some ways, to be the calm before the anticipation and excitement of Spring. Additionally, I despise Winter. If it comes first, I have the remainder of the year to look forward to. Christmas is a beautiful time of the year and an appropriate celebration for the end of the year.

  7. Missa Sange-- Although all seasons are unique and contain aspects that make them likely to be chosen as the "starting season", I would have to say that, for me, fall represents creation. Autumn is not usually viewed as a "beginning" of seasons, but signifies a state of change. During fall, animals change their living patterns, some migrating, others hibernating or storing food. Autumn is almost a median, where spring and winter themes are brought together before seperating for the following year. The world brings about a different attitude when everything changes colors. When God brough forth the world, he changed everything for us. Fall could have been the perfect starting point: not too warm, not too cold, an opportunity for change.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Mark Sange, Missa's dad-- Spring represents the birth and beginning of life. The origins of life come from the ashes of death in this season, and all things seem to find a new way to survive, grow, and flourish.

  9. Sophie Ydstie- All of the seasons cannot stand alone, but i think the one that came first was winter. All creation starts simple. The naked trees were the base, then spring was second. In Spring, leaves they grow and flowers bloom. This adds to the initial season.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Erik Ydstie (Sophie's dad)- I choose spring because spring is the beginning of life. Birds make nests and lay eggs, which is the start of new life. Plants grow, leaves come out of the trees, and the nature explodes is activity.

I think that Spring probably came first because Spring is the symbol of new life. If there were no life, then none of the other seasons could have followed. Winter is seen as the symbol of death because it is cold, and many things in nature die during the winter because they can't handle the cold. So, to have death, you first need some form of life. Spring is cool. It is not too hot, and not too cold. Then summer comes along and starts to warm everyhing up and gives all the forms of new life a chance to grow and prosper. Once summer is over, then, Autumn or Fall comes along and starts to cool everything down. The leaves start to fall off of the trees. The birds fly south for the Winter. The forests become quiet for all the animals have gone. The trees are now bare, and the weather is getting colder. Then the Winter comes with a blanket of snow covering the things that had once been alive. It is cold, and no one wants to play. So, again, I think that Spring came first because of its symbol of new life.

All the seasons are essential, but if i had to choose one I would say spring. Spring is in a sense new life. Jesus died and came back to life. He was reborn into this life, just as the plants get new life after winter. During spring everything that God has made has a chance to bloom into something beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Adam Dian - If I had to choose which season comes first, I would say spring. Spring brings about the return of life after a dull winter. The flowers bloom again, and Easter comes about. Both of these situations represent creation and new life. Life is renewed and the new year begins. The Bible tells us that God created the good and the new, and this is exactly what spring does.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Colleen Rathz- I'd say winter is the beginning of all seasons, because Christmas, the Birth of Christ, falls during this time. Before Jesus there was sin and death, but His birth brought new life and redemption. Winter represents the beginning of our new life with God.

This question is as old as the phrase "Which came first, the chicken or the egg." The question details the interdependent existence of all things in nature. This said, I think that we should chop up the chicken, scramble the egg, add fresh vegetables, add rice, fry it all together and add soy sauce. Then answer the existential question from the Fortune Cookie.

  16. Maria S.--If I had to choose which of the seasons came first I would choose Spring. I think Spring came first because it brings forth new life. The new life brought forth in Spring is like how life was started in Genesis.

  17. Ken Senatore (Maria's Dad)

Spring would be my choice as the first season. This is the season of starting a new beginning. To select any other seasons would be contradictory to what occurs during these periods. Although you have growth its not the original growth during the Summer and Fall seasons. Fall begins the dormancy and slow death of life. Winter is the dormant or death season; it is an end or halting to the life cycle. So to me, the first season is Spring.

  18. Lauren Peirish--As I read the other blog responses, I noticed that spring seems to be the most popular answer with winter as a close second, however I think summer was the season that started them all. When God created Adam and Eve, he did not put them on this earth as babies, but man and woman, mature adults. Given this, I believe that when the Earth was created, trees were their full height with leaves on their branches, flowers bloomed, and mature animals roamed the Earth, just like summertime. From there came fall when the trees lost their leaves and animals hibernated through winter. Then, by springtime, rebirth happened throughout the world and from all the grown trees, seeds were created, and from all the animals, baby ones started roaming the earth. Spring is a time of rebirth, and I believe summer was the time of birth for all of God’s marvelous creations.

  19. Melissa Stritzinger-If I had to choose which one of the seasons came first, I would choose Spring. I would choose Spring, because Spring is a time of new life; it is the time when leaves start growing back on the trees, new plants and flowers grow, and most baby animals are born. Spring reminds us of the new life that Jesus gave us through His life, death, and Resurrection. Spring reminds us of when Jesus wiped away our sins through His death on the cross.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sally Stritzinger, Melissa's Mom-I would choose Spring. Spring is when the buds form on the trees, flowers begin to bloom, and tiny animals are born. In our Catholic faith, it is also the time when we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. Jesus died for us to give us life. So Spring is always a time when things begin to bloom and grow, and you can reflect on how precious life really is.

  21. Debra Dian, Adam's Mom - To me, winter comes first. I think it comes first because the Birth of Christ happened during this season. After Christmas we look to start our New Year and prepare for what lies ahead. Winter comes first because it is the time when boring and dull days evolve into something great.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Eric Sinclair- I would have to choose spring, as my first essential season. Spring is where life begins for many things. The main reason is how the Bible tells us about Easter. With all the new animals running around, the snow gone, and flowers shooting up. The newest parts of the world appear in Spring.

  23. Anne Hockenberry -

There's a legend in Greek mythology, about how the daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, was kidnapped by Hades, god of the dead. Until then, the world had existed in eternal summer. When Demeter heard her daughter was missing, she fell into despair, letting all plants wither and die. Until then, the world had existed in eternal summer, so this was a pretty big shock for most of us mortals. Eventually, this thing was worked out with Hades that Persephone would spend half a year with him and half a year with her mother. Whenever Persephone was away, Demeter would get sad, and all the plants would die.

I think there is no first or last season, but I do like this story with the idea that Autumn happens because a Mother is missing her child.

  24. Although many people would disagree with this statement, I believe that the passing years should start with fall. Each season can be named by their attributes. The spring and summer may be classified as warmth and rebirth, and the winter can be classified as a sleepy serenity. Unlike the 3 other seasons, fall cannot be titled with just one quality, because it holds many. The beginning of fall is like summer: full of life and sprouting with warmth. The middle of fall is neither summer nor winter, and the end of fall is the start of winter. I am under the impression that fall is very much like a bi-polar human. One moment that person is happy and then without warning he is very anger. One moment it is summer, and the next, it is winter. No year should start with just one season, it should not start with winter and gradually enter summer nor should it start with summer and gradually flow into winter. Every New Year humans alike make a resolution to become a better version of them. We can equate this idea to fall: (if it came first) the world makes a resolution to summer that once it dies, its eminent rebirth and growth will be more beautiful than the last. Therefore every year should begin with a hearty dosage of fall!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would choose summer as the season that started it all. The earth when formed was a lot warmer and more tropical. Which equates closer to a summer climate than any other climate. Since them the earth has been cooling which many believe is global warming. However, the earth has been cooling proven by the many ice ages.

I would choose spring as the first season because it is the time of buds and blossoms, baby animals and greenery. With spring comes an excitement in the air of new life. Because of this "new life", I think spring was the first season since with Creation, everything was new life.

After reading the question, the first season that came to mind was spring. I think that the reason I view spring as first is because it's the first season to begin after New Years, even though that holiday is actually in the middle of winter. I have a circular image of the year in my mind (which is actually very skewed) and spring seems to come first in that.

  28. Sarah Very- All the seasons bring about new changes on which we base the timing of our lives. Living in Pittsburgh, we're lucky to experience all of them. For me, spring represents many new beginnings and I would say it was first. During spring, flowers bloom, days become longer, and life thrives. God created life and Spring is a clear representation of all the wonders He created. I guess I think of Spring as the first season because during Spring, God's creation is most evident to me. Spring is the beginning of new life and new changes that may or may not have been there the year before. It represents creatures or plants in their original states, when God put them on the Earth, growing to become the parts of creation we see today. We can only experience this marvelous change in the season of Spring.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dan Very, Sarah's dad- I think Summer was the first season because sunlight is the source of all energy and growth on Earth. On the first day of creation, God said "Let there be light" and since the summertime is associated with long days and bright sunshine, I think that it could have been the first season.

  31. Rather than one season igniting a cycle, its more likely that all seasons stem from a single, primary season. Therefore, by combining the aspects of all seasons, the first season would be something between spring and autumn, closer to autumn. However, taking into accout the extreme heat that would be found on the early earth, the primary season would be closer to a very hot summer, a super summer, perhaps.

  32. Brian Beerman (Michael’s father) – Difficult question Mrs. West and as usual, I’m probably thinking too much. This reminds me of the first words my twelfth grade English teach spoke to us on the first day of school. He asked us, “Are we dead?” We then then discussed this and read The Dead, by James Joyce.

As I awoke to snow on my driveway this morning, I thought that God would first create a season that was more beautiful. But all of the seasons have beauty in their own way so as I think about this, the only reasonable answer for me would have to be Spring.

Spring is generally seen as a time of growth, renewal, and new life being born. Spring is also used as a metaphor for the start of better times and many countries celebrate the first day of Spring as the beginning of a new year. And because I can’t think of a reason why any other season would have been the first, I’ll have to go with Spring.

  33. Erin Diskin- I think that spring came first.
In the Bible it says, "God called the dry ground "land" (Genesis 1:10) To me, that means it could not be winter because there was no snow.
I don't think it could be autumn because God wouldn't create the trees with the leaves on the ground first.
I think it is spring because spring is when everything comes to life. Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. (Genesis 1:11)

  34. Nicole Lindner- If I had to choose which season to come first I would choose spring. Spring is life re-grown. Everything dies during winter and re-grows during spring. In a way spring is like the beginning of life at the beginning of each year.

  35. Audrey Bodek- I think the first season would be spring because that's when everything comes to life and is new. It's when people and wildlife alike come out of dormancy and become active. People are outside more and seem to be more interactive. The wildlife turns from its dormant state and "explodes" with color and beauty. Whenever you go outside, you see various animals and insects go about their business and it makes you feel like the world is alive.

I think that the first season is Spring because that is the time of the year when the days first start to become noticeably longer, plant life begins to emerge from its Winter dormancy, and the robin returns to start a new nest.

  40. Frank Vactor(keturah's dad) The first season I think of is Spring. Which to me represents new beginning.

  41. Maggie Stack- I would choose summer to be the first season because of a few reasons. Everyone looks forward to summer, and what better way is there to start off a new year by having fun? This would then mean that spring would be the last season, making it a bit ironic because it is the end of year. Spring brings new beginnings though, so the end would really be a beginning. Summer would also be great to have first because it would allow people to ease into the new year without having to worry about new changes and differences.

  42. Mauresa Solanina-I think that Spring should come first because, Spring is when everything gets a fresh start. I think that spring is the most important because you need srping inorder to have the other three seasons!

  43. I would say that spring was the first season. When i think of spring, i think of new life. There are many Bible accounts that take place in spring including our most important holiday of Easter. Jesus rose on the third day after his crucifixion. Many movies and the Bible portray this event with a sunny and warm atmosphere. All of the growth and development of plants takes place in spring. The creation story even uses this same environment and setting.

  44. I would chose winter. I would pick winter because Christmas is in it. Christmas is when Jesus was born. It seems like that would start out the season because Jesus brought new life. That seems like a good way to start a year.

In my mind I see the seasoon Spring beginning life. I only think this because of what I see in that season. I see flowers and leaves on trees starting to appear. From winter where they are all sleeping or dead they are born and springing out of the ground. Only God knows this answer.

  46. C.J. Fitzgerald- I would choose spring to come first because spring seems to me like a new beginning. Everything is just starting up again. Baseball starts and with spring comes gorgeous weather and you know that your nearing the end of the school year. Spring to me seems like the way to go because everything is "born anew". Spring also means Easter and the dieing and rising of Jesus. During spring everything just seems to begin again and it's like a fresh beginnig to me.

I would have to say the first season would be winter because Jesus, the Son of God was born in the winter and Jesus is obviously the sustainer to new life so it fits that winter would be the first season because it is new life. Plus, you are celebrating Christmas which fits with new life since it is Jesus' birth.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Zack Hankle-I would choose Winter to be the first season because it is when we celebrate Christmas. Everyone loves Christmas. It is Jesus' birthday, and it is the most joyful time of year. The snow makes everyone cheerful even though it is very cold outside. Winter gives us the best excuse to drink hot chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  49. JOSH LANG- If i had to chose which season came first i would have to say the spring. During the winter the leaves fall of the trees and some animals hibernate. In the spring things are "reborn" and represent new life. In the spring leaves grow back and animals come back from hibernation. Flowers also bloom in the spring which again represent new life in the spring. I think this is a good question that many people dont really think about. It is interesting to hear everyones views on it.

  50. Kevin Lally-- You can come up with a few good reasons for each season to come first, but i feel that it makes the most sense to have winter first. When winter comes it seems so pure and delightful because of the white fluffy snow. Then as it slowly melts away, the green grass rises to the surface for spring and summer. Immediately after that, fallows fall, this is it becomes shocking cold and leaves start to fall. This specific season i feel is a little bit depressing, because leaves fall and plants die. But surely after that winter renews all in its pure white manner.

If I had to choose which season came first I would choose Spring. Spring is the beginning of new life. It is invigorating throughout nature as our days grow longer and then flow into Summer. Summer arrives as all growing things come into full swing with beauty and fullness of life. Just like nature we have the "seasons of life." I feel that I am in Summer, full swing, never a dull moment and lots of sunshine. I would say Max is still in Spring, as all teenagers are still learning and growing. The seasons nature bring a wonderful analogy with the "seasons of our life".

I think that Spring was the first season. Spring is the season when everything comes to life. New buds begin to grow on the trees and all of the plants begin to show signs of new life and vegetation. I think when God created the world, he created the world to be in Springtime because this is the time when everything is new and is filled with new life.

  53. VICTOR TATUM: The season I would choose to come first would be winter because this season replenishes the earth with water allowing for the developement of plants and animals. Winter seems as if it is the beginning season because the earth is barron during this time and life is the result to come in the next seasons.

  54. Linda Diskin (Erin's mom)- I think that summer came first because you need sunlight, water and food to sustain life. All of these are plentiful in the season of summer.

  55. Emma Chammas-If I had to choose one season that came first I would choose winter. It is the time when we prepare for Jesus' birth. Winter is the most wonderful time of the year because everyone is filled with joy. I think of the snow as a wrap around the earth like cocoon around a caterpiller. When the snow melts beautiful life comes as the result.

  56. Kiera Lally-- I think I would choose spring as the first season, because spring means "awakening" to me. New sprouts, new beginnings, new growth, new ideas. A new start.

  57. Connor Meyers- I believe that out of the four seasons, Spring came first. The season of Spring is all about new life and birth. I disagree with Mrs. West response because "nothingness" is not a season. Before God created Earth there was nothing. Meaning not even a planet for seasons to exist on.

    ReplyDelete
  58. If I had to decide which season came first to start off all the other seasons, I would have to choose spring. Spring is when everything comes to life. Flowers bloom, birds migrate back north, and animals come out of hibernation. What a better way to start off with such a beautiful scenery! Spring has the perfect weather: rain and sunshine. Animals can make their homes and settle in the nice warm, but not too warm, weather. The animals get settled in and during the summer they can gather all the food they need for hibernation in the winter. In the fall, the animals can get their homes ready so they can hibernate. Then in winter, they hibernate and flowers die. Then comes spring again to renew the new life.

  59. Katie DeVore - If I had to choose between the four seasons which one I would want to come first, I would have to pick summer. Summer is the season of warmth and happiness, it’s when all the kids are out of school and families spend more time together. It’s when you can go outside and enjoy the beauty of nature and the animals around you. Also the homeless would not be cold, the plants would be growing and there would be lots of flowers. Summer is my favorite season and so I would have to choose it for the first season.

  60. Suzie DeVore (Kaityln's Mother) - Summer, since I was a little girl we always started the seasons with Summer Fall Winter Spring. There is ice cream and ice tea that always taste the best in the summer months.

  61. Eleanor Mershon- Well, even though winter is deffenitely my favorite season, I think I would choose Spring as the beginning of all the seasons. It is the time of new life and new birth. Since everything living must have been born, all the beautiful flowers and the nutricious food would start in Spring.
I agree completely with Tm K. about what he says about new life in Spring. We, as Catholics, celebrate Easter in the Spring to represent Jesus rising from the dead and giving us new life in him. He cleanses us of our sin as the winter cleanses the earth of all the things that died in the fall. In this way, Spring stands for the beginning of our Life with God.

  62. Zonia Moore--
I'm pretty sure that everyone has already stolen what I thought but I am going to continue anyway.
We call spring the time of rebirth, so naturally it would have been the original time of birth. Winter is the time of rest, death for plants. The spring and summer is when plants go through the main part of their cycle. Fall is when they prepare to hibernate, to slow their functions to survive. Plants put themselves in a state close to death for them; they could not have started that way. Life takes a while to get started. The first thing a doctor wants to hear after birth is the sound of the baby crying. It represents the beginnings of life. The sputtering starting of life.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Maddie Jones - Well with all due respect, you sort of took my answer, Mrs. West. I also think the first season would be winter, because in Genesis it states that God created everything out of nothing. I would consider winter to be the state of the world before God's creations. Then when He created light in the darkness and new life, spring came.

  64. Mike Molnar – I believe the first season was summer. When god created the world, he would have wanted to see it in full bloom. The air would be warm so animals and people could enjoy the beautiful earth God created for them.

Fall is the season of harvest. As humans we tend to think of harvest as it meets our needs--by providing a bounty for us to live on. But what if we look at harvest as something to provide nature's needs? Fall is the season when the leaves fall, the fruit drops, the taking in of energy from the sun stops. But the energy transfer does not stop. In the fall, nature returns it to the earth to provide all of the nutrients needed to begin the growing process. Seeds must then incubate through the winter to blossom in the Spring. Then summer in its glory, gives way to fall again--starting the process all over again. So in that way, Fall is the first season. The season of fertility which eventually yields to the season of birth. I think that is why we start school in the Fall. To incubate ideas in our minds so that they may blossom and then bear fruit some day.

  71. All seasons can be seen as being the first. I believe that the first season is spring. I think spring is the first season because I feel that it is the rebirth of life. Winter, I believe is viewed as the end of life as it destroys the flowers and leaves on the trees. Spring is where the flowers come back to live. I can relate spring to Jesus's crucifixion. Jesus rose from the dead and we celebrate this event on easter which is for the most part, the beginnig of spring. What more can be a greater beginning then the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord!

  72. Cheryl Kumpf, Danielle's Mom - To me it seems that winter would be the first because during winter, nature lacks life. It seems as though all things are asleep and waiting to begin life, which then happens in spring with the budding of new flowers and trees.

    Katherine Borza (Tyler's Mom)
I believe spring would have to be the first season for the simple reason that spring is all about beginnings and new life. It's obvious in nature with buds on the trees, plants and flowers popping up and the grass turning greener. It's a chance for all things to start over again.

  75. Emma Babcock- I always think of Spring as coming first in the cycle of seasons. Spring is the season of birth. The weather grows warmer, the snow and ice of winter melts, and new plants push up through the soil and unfurl their new leaves. I like to think of Spring as the conception of life. It gives way to the vibrancy of summer, and eventually to the bleakness and lifelessness of winter. But at the end of it, Spring is always there to bring rebirth to the world. Without birth, there can be no life.

  76. Chrissy Ludwikowski- I would choose Spring as the first season because Spring reminds me of new life, the gift that God gave us. It shows all of the goodness that God is capable of giving us because of his love for us, and if Spring was the first season that we would see, we would remember right away God's love for us.

  79. Sean Maloney - Winter is the first season in my opinion. I took a lot of time looking into the question and focused on God's role in the seasons. Here's the way I broke it down to myself, without God we're absent of hope and love. That rules out summer as the first season because summer always instills a sense of love in me for everything I do. Spring is a similar season to summer with hope and romance and new love in the air. The only season which reminds me of a time without God and his message is winter. The season is beautiful, but cold, lonely, dangerous, and unforgiving at times. I also think that before God created Earth, there was only the season of winter with no real hope of change or better days ahead.

In Genisis, the world was void and darkness, with no life. This sounds a lot like the winters we have here, especially when it is late January. Also, spring comes after winter, like all life was created after the void. Everything is dead in winter, and in spring, it is born. Everything must be dead in some way before it comes to life, for that is the way of the universe. We are created from dust and to dust we shall return. Winter must come before any life, whether it is with the seasons, a child, or life. That is why winter is the first season, all other seasons stem from it.

There really is no "first" season per se, life is truly a continuum! God began this whole thing somehow, someway and it is beyond our ability to understand as humans. He is divine, immortal and forever. Quite possibly, as in many things, He may have started small and worked His way through it. Possibly in the dead of winter He sowed the seeds of life; bringing complexity out of simplicity and allowing us to enjoy the many wonderful gifts of His creation.

  83. Mike Erdeljac-
I think the winter came first because of the ice age. Winter is like the begining of things in the earth so I think it would make sense for it to be the first season. Winter is also gloomy and dead so God gave us life to go into spring, summer. So once a year

  84. Kaitlyn Tunney- Spring should be the first season because it is the season of new life and rebirth. It is a new start for creation and a chance to begin anew. Once withered flowers bloom beautifully in Spring. The sound of birds chirping bring happiness to everyone. Spring also reminds me of Jesus' Resurrection, which signifies new life. God is the source of all new life and in Him, we can begin anew. :)

  85. Erin Masterson- IF i had to choose which season would come first i would probably say fall. After seeing a lot of other people's opinio0ns, spring seems like the number one vote. However, I think fall is the first season. During fall the leaves change colors and everything life like comes to an end. I think that this symbolizes the preparation of life and rebirth. Though it may not be the most fun season i think it erases the "canvas" per say of the year that had once past. Fall to me seems like the season of new beginning, hence the first season.

  86. Karen Masterson (Erin's mom) The first season, in my opinion, would be spring. It is the beginning of everything. Rebirth and growth are equated to spring. In this season there is new growth of food, the days become longer, crops begin to grow, spring is the time when all life is blossoming.

  87. I think that winter begins and ends the year.In the beginning there is nothing then spring brings for life. Summer is when the seasons are in full swing. Then fall is like the beginning of the end of the cycle. therefore winter is the beginning and the end of the seasonal cycle.

  88. I think that fall should come first because that is the beginning of the best sports in the world. Like soccer for instance. Soccer proves once again that Europeans have dominance over Americans, especially the Irish and the Belgians. This is why fall is so important. Also more people are active in the fall no matter what it may be, In the winter everyone including animals stay hidden from the world... and thats just not fun. Thus concludes why Fall is the GREATEST!!

  89. Jessica Greer-Hmmm, it looked like alot of people put spring first, and i have to agree with them. Spring is when Jesus was resurrected and it was a new rebirth for him in a way. Spring is also the time of year when everything starts growing again. Spring is when everything starts and restarts. In the spring everything comes out of hiding from the cold winter. Trees and flowers blossom and if God wanted any season to be first, it would be the most beautiful one, spring.

  90. I think that spring would be the season that started them all. I think it would be spring because spring is the beginning of all new life. In spring all life is reborn. The plants sprout and the animals wake from hibernation. Also in the story of creation, I always pictured the start of all life in the spring when warm weather and there are beautiful new plants.

  92. Bob Colleran- I would pick Summer as the season that came first to create all the other seasons. Summer is a time of carefree activity for all creatures- it is a time of vacation for humans, the time when animals that hibernate are at their most active collecting food, and the time when the most insects such as flies and hornets can be seen busy about their tasks outside, rather than in the later months when they are found inside homes more.

God created the earth at a time of carefree activity and prosperity with all things living in harmony, as depicted in the Bible, and I see Summer as the season that most corresponds with this.

  93. Spring should come first. Now i say this because Spring is always associated with new life and a new beginning. It is when the flowers blossom and when the plants turn green. Spring is also associated with happiness and glee, and it is always important to have a strong beginning.

  94. I think that spring should come first. I think this because its when everything comes back to life and all of the animals come back out. Everyone is happy because winter is over and its starting to get warmer again. Also, spring is a time for new life and a lot of people get married and start a new life toghether.

  95. Erik Michael Reid --> For my decision I would choose Spring. Spring brings about the flowers and because of this we would be able to enjoy them through the summer and and some of fall. I think that if we had spring first, we would be able to appreciate more the wonderful flowers and beautiful outdoor life God has given us. Spring is the most lively season also with all the wonderful colors, wether it's raining or the sun is shining and the birds flying back north, there is all sure to be excitement in the spring months.

  97. Bryan Repermund- i would choose Spring because it's when everything starts to come back to life, or is just showing signs of life. Also spring is when Jesus Dies on the Cross for our sins and is then rises from the dead just like the flowers are doing. Spring is a time of peace and is the reason why i chose it.

  98. Megan Smith - Out of all the seasons, I would choose winter as the first season. When I first think of winter, I think of the snow. It covers all of God's creation. Although plants die in the winter, I believe that the snow acts as a purifier, cleansing everything it lands on. It gives all life a "fresh start" so that when spring comes around, everything can grow to its greatest potential.

  100. Ashlee Darby- I would say Spring because Spring represents a new life. Many things happen during Spring, and God's creation comes out. Spring represents new things happenening. Also, Spring starts everything off. Flowers are blooming, etc and from there I believe the rest of the seasons follow.

  101. C Riley- I believe that I would chose winter as the first season of the year. Winter to me represents a clean slate. Winter cleanses God's palette as if it were erasing the other season's beauty in preparation of a new beginning. Jesus is born in the winter and he brought a new beginning to the world.Jesus purged the world's sins just as winter purges the old growth.

  102. Chris Koryak- All the seasons run in a cycle that is dependent on each other. However, if I had to choose a season that were to go first, I would choose the spring. Spring is when all the plants and creatures come out. The earth changes from its barreness to filled with luminous green. The flowers bloom and the beauty of the Earth is shown. The spring is when the Church celebrates its life in Easter. Additionally, the rain begins to fall and helps the life that has been created in the plants and animals. Many animals end their hibrenation, come out, and flourish.

  103. Megan-- If I had to pick a season that started the continuous cycle of seasons it would be winter. In winter everything is cold and snowy. The barren landscape of winter would allow the cheery colors of spring to emerge. By starting in winter, God would show his greatness by using a white canvas to create a masterpiece.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Jesse--Spring had to have come first. Its a cycle, and spring begins it. Spring is the begining of growth, summer is the peak, fall is the slow descent towards hibernation and dormancy, and then winter is a resting period for nature. Then the cycle repeats, year after year, decade after decade. If you start the cycle anywhere else, it wouldn't work, and nature would be all messed up.

If I were to order the seasons, I would order winter the first. The first day of winter is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere; occurs as Christians are preparing for the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus, in my opinion is the light of the world and his "light" provides me with guidance during the winter. Even though winter is, for the most part pale, the season does provide us with beauty. I am deeply inspired by the beauty of snow on a tree branch or on the ground as snow. Next, I believe that winter is needed to be placed first,as winter sets up the beauties of spring. Finally, I believe that winter must be placed first as winter ultimatley foreshadows the beauties of spring, and it is our "death" before the new life of spring.

  107. Alex Kerr-well none of the seasons can start first because it is a continuous cycle but if I had to choose one to be first i would choose fall so that winter could be second so that i could have birthdays in the winter because my birthday is in the july all the time and i always wanted to have a winter birthday.

  108. I think that the first season to come was s pring. I chose spring because its when the flowers begin to bloom and the weather begins to be nicer. Also i choose spring because during fall and winter the plants seem to die, and the trees become bare and everything seems to become less of what it was. Then when spring comes it's almost like a new life appearing. Animals also come out from their hibernation and start to stay out.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Carly Reddick - If i were to be able to chose what season came first, I would choose Spring. Spring is the season were everything starts anew. All the flowers and trees begin to bloom. Animals come out of hibernation and it feels like the sun has come out of it as well. Everything seems to come alive in Spring.

  110. Michael Toro- My decision for which season came first, I would say spring. I choose spring because in spring, it is like life is renewed and like everything come to life for the rest of the seasons. Spring is when everything comes alive from the emptiness of the bare winter. Spring is new life and when nature "starts over", like a new beginning.

  111. Joel Toro- If i could have any season to start, then i'd have to choose Winter. I'd choose winter because in the winter i get to ski, and i love to ski. It's also a "cozy" time of year, that starts it out in a good mood. Also in Winter there's Christmas, and who doesn't LOVE Christmas?! You get free presents. But i think tht Winter would be a good starter because of its qualities that it holds.Even though the year starts out during winter, i'd like it tostart out ust beginning winter. Thank you and goodnight.

  112. Sofia Buxareo: Spring was the first season because everything grows in the spring. When the world was created things had to fill it up... To do that things must grow - things grow in the spring. Hence spring was the first season.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Allie Kopco- If I had to chose which season came first it would be fall. This is the time where everything is changing and starting to bring in the new. It's not too hot nor too cold and is right before winter which is when Jesus was born. I think along with change something new and refreshing comes out of it. So I think the feeling of newness and change starts the seasons off. By changing it also helps us feel like we can just start off a new set of seasons and change with them.

    ReplyDelete
  114. That is a very good question to ponder about. But I think spring would be the first season because spring reminds me of "Birth" and "renewal." I think that winter should be the end of the cycle because winter is when there is no life, and is almost nothing. But then spring reminds me of new life, which then leads into summer, when it is fully grown, then fall, then winter.

  116. Rebecca Edwards - In my opinion i think winter represents the first season. It is right when jesus' birth is and it is before creation starts. I overall love winter, because it is so beautiful. The white snow represents how pure the season is. Winter is the time for christmas and bringing of families together.
